The Lumino Water Supply Project in Kakamega County, funded by USAID under the Western Kenya Water Project, was initiated in February 2025 and successfully completed in May 2025. The project focused on establishing a reliable and sustainable water supply system to meet the daily needs of households, institutions, and the wider community.
Before the project, residents of Lumino faced persistent challenges in accessing clean and safe water. Many relied on seasonal streams, distant water points, or unsafe sources, exposing them to waterborne diseases and limiting time for productive activities. The scarcity of water affected hygiene, health, and overall living conditions.
The project introduced a fully functional water supply system designed to provide consistent access to clean water. This involved the development of water infrastructure, installation of efficient distribution networks, and implementation of sustainable management practices. These interventions ensured that households and community facilities could access water conveniently and safely.
