The proposed rehabilitation and augmentation of the existing Kalawa Water Treatment Works in Makueni County (Project No. C0239/FY25) is a World Vision–funded initiative awarded to Jakimo Infrastructure (E.A) Ltd. Valued at Ksh. 10,383,399.00, the project focuses on upgrading the plant to improve its performance, capacity, and overall reliability. The works officially commenced on 8 October 2025, with the contract signed on 22 October 2025.
The primary objective of the project is to enhance the operational efficiency of the Kalawa Water Treatment Works. This includes expanding treatment capacity, improving water quality output, and ensuring a more consistent and dependable water supply for the surrounding community. The upgrades aim to reduce system inefficiencies and provide long-term improvements to water service delivery.
The project involves rehabilitating existing treatment components and augmenting the facility with improved systems and technologies. This includes structural repairs, equipment upgrades, optimization of treatment processes, and enhancements to key infrastructure required for effective water treatment and distribution.
The rehabilitation works are scheduled to run for a period of 16 weeks starting from 8 October 2025, with targeted completion on 28 January 2026. This timeframe ensures timely delivery of the planned improvements while maintaining adherence to project standards and specifications.
Once completed, the upgraded Kalawa Water Treatment Works will offer improved capacity, better operational efficiency, and more reliable service delivery. The community is expected to benefit from enhanced water supply stability, improved water quality, and increased resilience of the treatment system.
This project is a significant step toward strengthening water infrastructure in Makueni County.
