The Kaiti II Water Supply Project, funded by STAWI, commenced in September 2024 and was completed in November 2024. The project involved the installation of pipe crossings, the setup of a solar-powered pumping system, and the construction of a fully equipped water kiosk. These works were designed to strengthen the existing water infrastructure and expand access to clean and reliable water for the surrounding communities.
Before the project, communities within the Kaiti II area faced persistent challenges in accessing safe and dependable water. Limited infrastructure, inadequate distribution systems, and long walking distances to water points created daily hardships. Households spent considerable time fetching water, and the lack of reliable supply affected hygiene, health, and productivity. The existing system could not meet the growing demand, particularly during dry seasons.
To resolve these challenges, STAWI supported the construction of key water supply components that improved the system’s functionality and reach. Pipe crossings were installed to enable safe and efficient transmission of water across challenging terrain. A solar pumping system was introduced to ensure sustainable and uninterrupted water flow while reducing operational costs. Additionally, a strategically located water kiosk was constructed to provide a centralized, easily accessible water point for the community.
The completion of the project resulted in significant improvements in water availability and reliability. Community members now enjoy shorter distances to fetch water, reducing the physical burden especially on women and children. Improved access has enhanced hygiene and sanitation practices, contributing to better health outcomes. The solar system ensures a steady supply of clean water even during dry periods, making households more resilient. The water kiosk also creates a more organized and efficient method of distribution, supporting both domestic and small commercial needs.
